1. What is askCHARITY.org.uk?
askCHARITY was set up to help charities in their work with the media. It is an online contacts book which lists charities' details including their key media contacts. It aims to make it easier and faster for media professionals to get in touch with charities. It also aims to open up, hard to reach sections of the media, to charities.

2. Who runs askCHARITY.org.uk?
askCHARITY is operated by CharityComms, the professional body for charity communicators.

3. Is askCHARITY really a free service?
Yes! At the moment it's absolutely free for charities and journalists to use the service.

4. How do I sign my charity up?
Any registered charity or voluntary sector organisation can sign up to askCHARITY for free. Just fill in the simple online sign up form to get started.

5. How can I change the details listed for my organisation on askCHARITY?
It's easy. Sign in (or email us if you've forgotten your sign in details) and you'll be taken to your charity's own page on the site where you can make any additions you'd like or edit your details.

6. Can I remove our charity from askCHARITY?
Yes. If at any time you find that you no longer wish to be listed on askCHARITY please just email Ellie and we will remove your organisation's entry.

7. Who uses askCHARITY?
Journalists, broadcasters, researchers, freelancers; every kind of media professional, from every kind of media organisation uses askCHARITY.org.uk. We ask all our media users to login and register on the site so that your charity's information and mobile numbers remain password protected. askCHARITY is only marketed to media professionals.

8. What is The Answer Service?
The Answer Service lets media users send out their requests for spokespeople, interviewees and subject specialists to all the charities within a particular category. The requests will arrive in your charity's nominated email inbox and then it's entirely up to you whether you respond to the media request or not.

9. Are requests spam?
No. All requests sent via the Answer Service are genuine and abuse of the service is extremely rare. If in doubt please contact us.

10. Does CharityComms monitor journalist requests before they go out?
No. This would stop requests from going out instantly. Often journalists have tight deadlines so this would limit the number of opportunities for charities, and also make the service less efficient. We do look at requests as they go out - and will contact the media professional concerned if we feel the service is being abused. Instances of abuse are exceptionally rare. We also monitor the media sign ups.

11. I don't have time to deal with all of the requests I'm being sent
The Answer Service is very popular and you may receive many requests each day. These requests are golden opportunities for you and your organisation to get media coverage and make contacts. We recommend you just skim read each and delete if not appropriate.
